Beyond Governance’s commitment to charity governance

At Beyond Governance, we strive to enable organisations to rise above the minimum standards prescribed by law.

This desire to drive change is what motivated us to become a contributor to The Girls’ Network, (a charity, mentoring, inspiring and empowering girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a network of professional female role models).

With limited resources at the charity in terms of legal and governance expertise, Beyond Governance ensured complete legal compliance and designed a springboard for future good governance.

We undertook a wholescale review of The Girls’ Network’s governing documents, policies and procedures to ensure that it can keep focused on its purpose to help young women achieve access to inspirational role models.

Charly Young, the CEO at The Girls’ Network, understands the need for focusing on good governance:

“Erika and her team at Beyond Governance have provided vital support in reviewing and developing policy documents and governance practices at The Girls’ Network, helping us to ensure that the charity is running as effectively as possible to enable us to concentrate on the girls and young women that we support. With leaner board packs and more action-focused policy documents, we are able to use our resource and our time even more impactfully.

The team spent time understanding the work and aims of the charity, enabling us to have conversations about the processes and procedures that would help us realise our objectives, and give us confidence that our governance was rigorous and suited to the size and function of the organisation.”

Beyond Governance also successfully developed the charity’s internal, operational and mandatory policies as well as added helpful processes to their annual reviews and appraisals systems (including proformas, reports, schedules).  To accommodate the current pandemic, we also designed a flexible, work from home policy.

In addition, we reviewed board pack structure and content so that the charity’s Trustees feel connected and can remain focused on key, strategic aspects of the organisation with clear guidance, support and the ability to constructively challenge.
